How to pick the right destination for a weekend trip

You want to plan a great trip in 2 days? Then a weekend trip is the right thing for you! Here are 4  tips that I take into account when planning and booking a weekend trip to get the most out of the given time.

1. Trip Distance

WHERE? HOW?

Sure, if you have little time to get an impression of your destination, it is recommended to choose a destination which is not too far away. I always like to travel with Flixbus because it is simply the cheapest. On the other hand, traveling by bus just takes longer. I always tell people to reach for the stars but if youre dream destination is just too far, I would save it for times where you have more than just 2 days to explore. recommend you not to take over and to force destinations as it were. At some point you will have more time again and then you will know exactly where you will go. On the subject of bus and train tickets: Depending on which budget you travel with and how much time you actually have available, it is worth one or the other means of transport more.

Basically, when purchasing train tickets in Germany, I roughly look forward to booking about 90 days in advance. Since the saving prices are the cheapest. The prices for bus tickets vary with Flixbus not too much, so you can act more spontaneous. The most flexible way to travel is by car. In my last blog post I also write about road trips and the magic of these. If you can share the fuel costs here, this way of getting away for a weekend break can even outrun the others.Traveling – it leves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.

2. Attractions

WHAT?

Week trips can be laid-back or adventurous, but in both cases I love it when something is offered at the destination. Whether it’s sights, viewpoints and other attractions…they are key to an eventful weekend. Whether it’s a city trip or hiking tour that you’re doing, it is always advantageous to have a rough plan where to go. Even if you do your research on the way to your destination, but if you get an overview beforehand, you save a lot of time on arrival.

An absolute app recommendation from me here is the free app ‘visitacity’! With various 1-4 day itineraries that you can modify yourself, the app helps you to plan and organize your own trip, be it shopping or museums and attractions. You decide!

Art District in Valencia. Found with visitacity and easily built into my schedule.

3. Locals

Even as a person traveling alone, one likes to be in nice company. Therefore, before every trip, whether short or long, I seek contact with people I know in the city, or who know someone in the city. It completely changes the experience in a city when you experience it with a local and get the real insider tips that you will not find in any guidebook. Even if you do not use them to stay overnight, for example, the app ‘Couchsurfing’ or the Facebook group of the respective city an ideal platform to spontaneously meet new people, of course, hostels are an ideal port of call, if you like to stay in such. I had only good experiences with hostels.

4. Own preferences

All in all in the end you have to feel comfortable in your own skin and decide what you most like and where you want ot go to. You can plan as rationally as you want. If a weekend trip is simply not enough time, then explore your own city! You have certainly not seen everything, I know what I am talking about!

So, where will your next weekendtrip be going to? Or will you spend it with sunbathing on the balcony?
